July ‘25 - Life in Color
Color Theory - Advanced Entry
This challenge was great. Colors…I love colors, but I cannot combine them to save my life. I appreciate color combinations that work, but they don’t flow out of me effortlessly.
This month’s challenge is my new favorite. In my own soapmaking, I shy away from colors, especially micas, just because it’s easier for me to let each soap do what it will. But, after participating in this challenge, I will definitely be exploring lots of bright color combinations in my future soaps.
First try at one-pot wonder
For my first try, I wanted to try one-pot wonder because it just seemed so fun, and I had shied away from it in my own soap making.
I picked a tetrad and went for it. I planned wrong and ended up with not enough soap, and so my bars turned out to be these cute little bars. I thought this technique was difficult, my colors started tracing at different speeds, and I was not certain how to manipulate the pitcher to get it to look right. It looks good to me now, but when first cut it, I wasn’t certain that the technique was right.
Drop swirls first try
Not satisfied with my first try, I decided to try something else. This was also my first try at drop swirls and I loved it, but I didn’t realize that I couldn’t use white in this challenge, so I had to try again.
One more one-pot wonder
This started out as a drop swirl, but sticking to my plan was not easy, so in the process of preparing for a drop swirl, I ended up going for another one-pot wonder. The color balance seemed off in this one, so I tried again. Also, that yellow looks white again!
This is my favorite. The colors are so beautiful together and I like how bright they are.
My third try was my favorite. The one-pot wonder is my new favorite technique. Sadly, I forgot again that white was not an option and even though I tried to turn the white into a faint yellow, it still looked white in the end. I love these colors, but don’t think the colors are separated enough to enter this soap.
Image inspiration
In this next try, I decided to do another drop swirl and pick another color combination from an image I saw on Pinterest, see image.
Close enough
Color combination in the works.
Green drop swirl
Drop swirls with no white or black but I was not sure this was the one.
I couldn’t stop there, so one more one-pot wonder is what I did. Combining colors was not as difficult as picking a combination and sticking to it.
Final try and entry for the advanced category.
